Sumon Sarkar
Postdoctoral Fellow
Sumon Sarkar is a BIDMaP Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley, working with Prof. F. Dean Toste and Dr. Samuel Blau. At BIDMaP, his research centers on data-driven approaches to catalytic reaction discovery.
Sumon received his B.Sc. from Jadavpur University and his M.Sc. from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry with Prof. Vladimir Gevorgyan, beginning at the University of Illinois at Chicago and completing his degree at the University of Texas at Dallas, where he developed photoinduced radical C–H functionalization reactions. He then conducted postdoctoral research with Prof. Timothy Newhouse at Yale University, developing AI-assisted strategies for synthesis planning in collaboration with Prof. Victor Batista and Boehringer Ingelheim.
